ArcPilot — VR Controllers as a Steering Wheel
Hands on a real wheel, eyes in a virtual cockpit — standard VR controllers mapped to work like a steering wheel.
ArcPilot is IBN's own VR steering experience built around one idea: let players steer with their hands on a real wheel. Two standard VR controllers sit in the rim of a wooden steering-wheel stand, and ArcPilot reads them as a single wheel, so turning the rim steers the aircraft the player sees in the headset.
VR controllers are made to be held and waved freely, not turned around a fixed axis. Their movement had to become one smooth, believable steering angle — something a first-time player at a busy event stall understands the moment they grip the wheel, with no buttons to learn and no extra wheel electronics.
IBN built ArcPilot in Unity. The two controllers are tracked as points on the rim, and their movement around the wheel's centre is mapped to a steering angle that drives the vehicle. The stand puts the wheel at a natural height, and a side screen lets the queue watch what the player sees.
