Codexis MR Labs — STEM Through Mixed Reality Storytelling
A little golem has lost his way home. Every obstacle on his path is a STEM lesson students solve with their hands.
Codexis MR Labs teaches STEM through immersive mixed reality storytelling for Grade 10–11 students. Through the headset, a miniature fantasy world — the Land of Codexis — appears on the student's real desk, and a small stone golem needs help getting home. Each obstacle is a lesson: arrange commands to program his steps, find the reaction that clears a pond, use geometry to repair a bridge, and solve a circuit to light the path.
School STEM often depends on textbooks and limited lab time, and most immersive learning tools only measure engagement with a questionnaire afterwards. Codexis had to turn four subjects into one adventure, work with bare hands instead of controllers, and show teachers how engaged each student is while the lesson is happening.
Codexis runs on Meta Quest 3 in passthrough mixed reality: the story world is anchored to the student's table, and native hand tracking lets students pinch, grab and place objects directly. Four modules — Technology, Science, Mathematics and Engineering — share one storytelling framework. A wristband records heart rate and body temperature, and together with in-app behaviour such as task completion, response time and exploration, these signals feed a real-time Teacher Analytics Dashboard.
