Kalaanehtraa 2023 – Tamil Traditional Arts Opening Cinematic

For SLIIT’s annual Tamil cultural celebration, the Kalaanehtraa community needed a powerful opening video that would set an emotional, reverent tone. The piece had to honor traditional dance, music, and drama with authenticity, functioning as both an artistic statement and event opener.

The entire project — from sculpting detailed statues in traditional attire to final render — had to be completed solo within one week. Achieving film-quality lighting and deep emotion on a tight timeline without a team was the defining constraint.

IBN sculpted highly detailed statues in Blender using dynamic topology, then brought them into Unreal Engine 5 where Lumen’s real-time global illumination and cinematic cameras created the depth and atmosphere of a heritage film. The edit was synced to a Tamil musical score to maximize emotional impact.
